Hammersmith and Fulham Council

Vacancy Description

About the role

Hammersmith and Fulham is a borough that benefits enormously from a rich diversity of iconic buildings, conservation areas, successful businesses, major centres of health and education and three famous football teams.  It is also a highly desirable place to live. Constantly evolving and reshaping itself to meet the needs of its changing population in what is one of London’s most densely populated areas.

Hammersmith and Fulham council are hugely ambitious and constantly striving to be the best.  Our newly combined Regeneration, Planning and Housing service is at the heart of what is to come. We are passionate about place-making, matching the expectations of our residents with high quality homes including affordable housing and creating places where people will aspire to live and work.

As our new Area Team Leader, you will play an instrumental role in the management and performance for planning services within the north of the borough, encompassing the Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith Town Centre, White City and includes high profile land marks and significant developments.

Key to your success will be your ability to engage with and listen to residents, communities and other stakeholders, including elected members in delivering high quality advice and planning services.  You will ensure your team is fully supported, empowered and resourced to deliver excellence. Retaining a clear focus on desired outcomes, whilst all the while recognising the value and contribution of individuals on the team.

About you

As a planning professional, you will bring previous management experience and a range of expertise. This should include experience of large scale developments and regeneration schemes, public inquiries, negotiating complex agreements and up to date knowledge of planning legislation.

You’ll be a leader whose expertise will enable you to establish credibility, as well as engender support.

Aside from the above, you’ll be skilled in working at a political level – understanding members’ roles, as well as how to engage and influence them.  You will also be a keen advocate of the importance of engaging with residents and communities and have full regard to the objectives of the whole planning service and the Council in carrying out the responsibilities of the post.

About us

Our Development Management Team is highly regarded and incredibly successful, consistently featuring in the top performing London Boroughs. We’ve achieved this by adopting lean processes, reducing bureaucracy and committing to developing and supporting our staff so they can perform at their very best.

We take a huge amount of pride in the fact that what we can offer here is the opportunity to be part of bigger projects than you’ll find at other authorities. This combined with an outstanding benefits scheme, excellent training opportunities and genuine career progression makes Hammersmith and Fulham the perfect place to advance your career.
