Hammersmith and Fulham Council

Vacancy Description

About the role

Hammersmith and Fulham is a borough that benefits enormously from a rich diversity of iconic buildings, conservation areas, successful businesses, major centres of health and education and three famous football teams.  It is also a highly desirable place to live.  Constantly evolving and reshaping itself to meet the needs of its changing population in what is one of London’s most densely populated areas.

The council are hugely ambitious and constantly strive to be the best.  Our newly combined Regeneration, Planning and Housing service are at the heart of what is to come.  We are passionate about place-making, matching the expectations of our residents with high quality homes including affordable housing and creating places where people will aspire to live and work.

As a Deputy Team Leader, you will be able to advance your planning career in a top London borough.  In this diverse role, you will balance your management and supervisory responsibilities with a caseload of major applications for developments within the south of the borough.  This encompasses Chelsea and Fulham, areas of high density, high value and conservation areas, listed buildings and with a considerable area of highly sought after riverside frontage.

You will help to ensure performance standards across the spectrum of the team’s planning services are consistently met. This will include major, minor and volume applications and we’ll expect you to understand the council’s wider objectives and the bigger picture as you help drive the service forward.

About you

As a planning professional, you will bring a range of expertise. This will include experience of major, minor and householder developments. You will be well versed in dealing with public inquiries, negotiating complex agreements and have up to date knowledge of planning legislation.

You’ll be an effective communicator and influencer – able to adapt your style to a range of audiences including residents, developers and elected members. You will also bring an ability to lead, motivate and develop other team members, even if you have limited supervisory or management experience to date.

About us

Our Development Management Team is highly regarded and incredibly successful, consistently featuring in the top performing London Boroughs. We’ve achieved this by adopting lean processes, reducing bureaucracy and committing to developing and supporting our staff so they can perform at their very best.

We take a huge amount of pride in the fact that what we can offer here is the opportunity to be part of bigger projects than you’ll find at other authorities. This combined with an outstanding benefits scheme, excellent training opportunities and genuine career progression makes Hammersmith and Fulham the perfect place to advance your career.

Application process

We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible and we just ask that you complete our online application form providing further information against just a couple of specific questions.  You are also welcome to attach your CV to further support your application.
