Our award winning and highly regarded procurement service is positioned to progressively achieve further cost savings and other targeted benefits through the adoption of the Category Management approach to Procurement. 

As our Procurement Category Manager for Corporate Services, you will play a critical role in managing the team and working with key stakeholders to control expenditure, as well as helping achieve social value and stimulating the local economy.

This role will offer you ample scope to use your creativity to plan and implement procurement projects that meet customer needs and make a valuable contribution to the council.  All the while developing valuable skills across a breadth of services and contracts.

You will take the lead in developing the Category Plan and in delivering the objectives and targets, as identified in the Plan.  Your Category portfolio will include all corporate services, including ICT, print, events, furniture, soft FM, catering, fleet, legal services and so on. Additionally, you will provide active support to the management of contracts – in particular the key, strategic contracts – and help develop Supplier Relationship Management within LBTH in order to achieve at operational stage the contract savings you will have built in at the tender stage.

You will have a thorough knowledge of EU and non-EU procurement processes, a clear understanding of EU procurement law and a sound market knowledge of your category, including Frameworks, that will feed into your strategic thinking.

You will be able to provide ad-hoc procurement advice to a range of internal clients and develop strong and trusted relationships with your client base such that they recognise you as a reliable source of advice and support.

The Procurement Team is a strong unit and you will be a good team player, willing and able to provide support and advice to colleagues, including on matters outside of your specialist category.

About you

As the successful candidate, you will be a full or part member of MCIPS or have the equivalent practical experience and, ideally, previous management experience.

You will have a good understanding of public sector procurement, together with a well-developed category knowledge, a commercial mindset, sound negotiation/persuasion skills and a ‘one team’ approach.

Furthermore, you will have a clear understanding of current market conditions and trends, as well as of modern and innovative procurement practices, including e-tendering processes.
