Here in Bexley, we are working to strengthen families, to enable them to identify their own solutions where there are difficulties, creating strong family networks and effective safety plans as the fundamentals to the protection and care of children. We are lucky enough to be one of a group of ten English local authorities implementing Signs of Safety, using it to strengthen professional practice and improve the long term outcomes for families and children. Relationships are at the centre of social work here in Bexley, and practitioners want to come and be part of what we are trying to deliver. 85% of our staff are permanently committed to us and that number continues to grow.
Bexley is playing a key part in helping London to grow sustainably and, in the years ahead, our residents will benefit from the opportunities this brings, including a better quality of life, improved wellbeing and efficient local services and facilities.

We now seek a new Deputy Director for Children’s Social Care to lead our new senior team. You will be responsible for our family well-being (early help) offer, children in need and child protection, looked after children, care leavers, adoption and fostering. We are ambitious for innovation, creative thinking and change. A strong and experienced leader and partner in children’s social care, you will drive an ever more relentless focus on high quality experiences for families enabled by strong and dedicated social work. You will bring vision, passion, leadership skills and an operational expertise that will facilitate the changes that we are ready to make.
