Rother District Council

Vacancy Description

About the role

Rother District Council is an ambitious authority with a reputation for innovation, forward thinking and excellent customer service. Rother is recognised for its high quality of life along with strong emphasis on investment, economic regeneration and growth.

We are committed to delivering economic development and regeneration goals. As our new Head of Service you will also play a pivotal role in driving forward the Council’s ambition to become financially self-reliant to protect services.  This will be achieved through transforming services, new housing and business growth, commercial acquisitions and potentially other income generation schemes, such as the provision of solar energy.

This is an influential role in which you will enjoy a good level of autonomy in shaping the council’s commercial approach and investment portfolio. You will also benefit from an experienced and supportive team, which deliver the council’s transformation plans, regeneration and tourism projects and initiatives.  This will enable you to develop your skills as a Head of Service and across the breadth of services this post has responsibility for.

About you

Whether you are from a private or public sector background, what we will be looking for is your ability to deliver a commercial agenda, with expertise in investment acquisitions.

Aside from the above, key to your success will be your drive, ability to influence and willingness to take measured risk.

About us

Rother District is located in the easternmost part of East Sussex. It is home to some of the most beautiful countryside and coastline in South East England and contains the historic market towns of Battle and Rye, the Victorian/Edwardian seaside town (and administrative centre) of Bexhill and many picturesque villages. Many of our residents are dispersed across the rural area, but with nearly half living in Bexhill.

The importance of the environment is evidenced by the extent of the district, some 82%, designated as ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, while a further 7% is either nationally or internationally designated for its nature conservation value.

We are an employer of choice and our council is recognised as a very pleasant, friendly and supportive place to work. The talented and committed people who work for us come from a wide range of backgrounds and are our greatest asset.

Working at Rother District Council provides you with the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of local people and the local community. You’ll also benefit from family friendly policies, flexible and agile working, onsite parking, the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as a commitment to your continued professional support and development.
