About the role
Mid Sussex District Council is a dynamic, forward thinking and ambitious local authority. To take our newly established Commercial Services and Contracts division to the next level, we are now seeking a Business Unit Leader.
Our Commercial Services and Contracts division directly impacts on all our residents and their environment, ensuring clean and safe streets, neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces. It brings together a range of outsourced services to benefit from synergies and drive service improvement.
The Council already enjoys strong working relationships with its contractors. The new division is designed to ensure a more commercially focused service - delivering better value for money and exploiting technology to improve efficiency and to provide an improved customer experience.
Building on past successes, the division has an ambitious programme of work ahead. There couldn’t be a better time for you to join us, to help shape and take the division forward.
This is a diverse and interesting role in which you will work at both a strategic and operational level to deliver change and modernise working practices. On appointment, some of your key challenges will be to implement Customer Relationship Management (CRM) processes across the division, to introduce mobile in-cab technology and ensure a more intelligence led approach through better use of performance data and more effective contract management.
We are looking for an ambitious and commercially focused manager, with experience in contract management, project management or delivering frontline services. We are less concerned about your technical expertise – what we will be looking for is your ability to drive change to deliver tangible outcomes.
Your collaborative approach will enable you to develop strong and valued working relationships with key stakeholders, including elected members, contractors and other local government partners. You will be a strong people and performance manager, with the ability to influence and take people with you.
