About the role
Cambridgeshire is a stunning county with a world-class reputation for education, research and knowledge-based industries. It is a place that people want to visit, live, work and study in.
As the fastest growing county in the UK, Cambridgeshire is a favoured destination for many new residents and businesses alike.
Development is inseparable from the continued economic success and the exceptional quality of life our county benefits from. However, successfully linking development opportunities with Cambridge’s outstanding heritage and environmental assets does not come without its challenges. There are different but equally important challenges in other parts of the County, with the need to attract new investment and promote growth and see the spread of the wealth of Cambridge over a wider area.
To achieve all of this, it is essential we have the right infrastructure but we are also looking to support the increase in demand on our travel network by shifting people from cars to other means of travel including cycling, walking and public transport.
This is a newly established post following a recent restructure and is critical in the delivery of our vision for Cambridgeshire. It provides an exciting and career advancing opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking management team. The post holder will work closely with our newly established Combined Authority and our Greater Cambridge Partnership teams to plan and deliver high quality infrastructure in a fast paced and forward looking environment. The Government’s focus is on Cambridge as one of the UKs economic hotspots and the level of funding and opportunity for the area is unprecedented. This is one of the most exciting and dynamic parts of the country to work in and one that will boost and enhance the career of the right candidate.
The new structure has positioned the service to be more flexible and responsive, as well as empower staff at all levels. We will now be looking to you to continue the transformation of the service and embed a ‘can do’ culture which focuses on the customer and outcomes.
This is a high profile and influential role in which you will be able to hone your leadership, strategic thinking and partnership skills across a spectrum of services and major developments. It will be fast-paced and challenging, but we suspect that if all the above appeals, you aren’t going to be daunted by that.
Whilst we are looking for a skilled professional with experience in transport planning and strategy, what is of equal importance is your ability to drive success – doing the extraordinary and doing it well. We’ll expect you to have an empowering approach that gets the very best out of people, as well as personal credibility. Seizing opportunities, and a tenacity to deliver change with demonstrable outcomes, will be what defines your track record to date.
Your profile will allow you to lead with confidence in a fast-paced environment and develop meaningful, respected relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
We ask a lot from our people but give a lot back in return. When you join us, you can do so safe in the knowledge that we will be looking out for you every step of the way. We want you to be assured that you’ll have the resources and support you need to succeed, the opportunities to grow and develop and the proper rewards for your hard work and dedication.
We place great value on training and continuous learning. You will have significant opportunities to undertake a range of training to ensure that you develop your knowledge and experience,. We also look to enable flexible working wherever possible.
We know how important it is that you can enjoy time away from work. We not only offer a generous annual leave entitlement, but you’ll also have the chance to purchase additional annual leave if required. Our fantastic benefits package also includes gym and holiday discounts, cycle to work scheme and an excellent local government pension.
We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible and we just ask that you complete our online application form providing further information against just a couple of specific questions. You are also welcome to attach your CV to further support your application.
